Message crank fialure.
The very first build was done by a shop in Steve's home town.
After it never being able to realize its power with the sport 700s and making about 560rwhp, Steve looked to SZ to tune the car correctly and when SZ was pulling the car off the trailer, the belt jumped and bent a bunch of valves (the cam carriers were soo tight I was surprised it lasted as long as it did). Steve then brought his car to me for its current build. During which, the crank was checked by the racing shop that does my crank work (all came out well without concern), but we did have numerous issues with the fuel system not keeping up, killing pumps and dropping pressure (something that had been carried over from the previous build which Steve wished to use - even though we tried to get him to go to a big single pump). The car then got tuned at SZ with fuel pressure dropping off like crazy (making around 770rwhp max if I remember correctly)... Steve made many passes trying to get the power out of the current build and tune, running dangerously lean (~18:1 afr)-SZ tried to help retune the car with some data logging Steve had done but still the fuel was just not there. After realizing the power was not coming and the fuel issue was getting worse, he finally went for the big single pump. The bearings were checked and were still in great shape. Once back together, the 1009rwhp number was finally made.
But I believe with all the runs and test done with the bad fuel pumps may have lead to the cranks fatigue and failure. With afrs running in the 18's at full boost and some nitrous trying to make a fast pass may have had enough detonation/pre-ignition force to weaken the crank and once the 1009 horsepower mark was made, it may have just finally added up to the crank failing.
As far as 1000rwhp being a limit to the VG... I doubt it... there were and are so many other factors that could have played into the failure, and as much as I would hate to say, even an oversight on my part during the build - but I really doubt that one.. :).

I am just glad it happened during the burnout and not at 140+ at the end of the track!

Hopefully some of this may help the other builder out there and others in why this crank failed.

Best run: 1.60 60', 11.319 @ 120.65 mph - 118 octane fuel (on 100 octane tune), 22 degrees of timing, 21-22 psi boost, 11 psi tire pressure (street slicks).
"..know your car better... RACE IT!.. AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.."
"Drag racing is for fast cars... Autocross is for fast drivers... Drifting is for cheap tires..." I made up the last one..
